The six ingredients
inherent in ‘Better Writers’
Organization- the
internal structure of the piece (Beginning, middle and end).
Voice- the
personal tone and flavour of the author’s message.
Word Choice- the
vocabulary a writer chose to convey meaning.
Sentence Fluency-
the rhythm and the flow of the piece of writing.
Convections- the mechanical
correctness of the piece.
Presentation- the overall appearance of the author’s work.
These key components (ingredients) provide teachers and students with a
common understanding for composing, revising, and assessing all types of
writing. Therefore, upon return to my classroom I will engage my students
in mini lessons that focuses on the writing traits. Also. I will provide them with
opportunities to write daily using the 6+1 writing traits.

Well said Jael. Personally I have never used all the components of the 6+1 traits of writing. On my return to the school I will definitely teach my students how to use the elements of the 6+1 traits to help develop their writing pieces. One way in which we can ensure that the students utilize all the components of the 6+1 traits in their writing is by providing them with a checklist that they can use while revising their writing pieces.
ReplyDeleteJael I must say as I read your blog I can see the 6+1 writing traits coming out beautifully. The thing which stood out to me the most is your presentation. Before I never concentrated on the presentation of my piece. After reading this I can see that it makes the reader keep coming back for more.
ReplyDeleteI just love this Jael, you couldn't have made it any more interesting, by just viewing the caption I just had to read. You indeed captured the idea of making better writers in a most creative way, and it does indeed capture how much effort you must put in for each trait. I also liked that you explained the meaning of each trait to close. Very well put together !
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love, love, love, this. Thoughts well put together girl. Not incorporating all of my writing traits when doing a piece, had tremendously affected me. Well let me use your measurement of ingredients. :) Sometimes I place more 2lbs of ideas and then only have 1tbsp of word choice. It is also very important to note that, we should know how we want our “cake of writing” to turn out, and would not want to put too much something one thing or too little of another, leaving your piece unbalanced.
ReplyDeleteI am really fascinated by this blog. I will definitely ensure I play a more active role on my return to the classroom in getting my students active with the writing process components.
